Christina Filippa

“IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ALL OF US, BEING POSSIBLE, LEARN TO PURSUE AND REALIZE OUR DREAMS...WHAT COULD BE MORE SEDUCING THAN YOUR OWN DREAM, FLESH AND BONE, SMILING BACK AT YOU?...”

Christina Filippa graduated in 2003 from the department of Architecture of National Technical University (NTUA) of Athens, Greece. Since then, she has been practicing architecture, taking part in numerous large scale projects and international sport major events. She has worked as an overlay architect for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games under the architectural office ‘DECATHLON’ and also as as overlay architect for the Doha 2006 Asian and West Asian Games Organizing Committee in Qatar. For the last 3 years she had been the supervising architect for the Athens Subway Depot for the construction company ‘TERNA’. Currently, Christina is based in Qatar working as an architect for the Doha 2011 Arab Games Organizing Committee.

Alongside with her achievements in architecture, she developed more of her artistic existence by painting, calligraphy and photography.

PAINTING

Christina has always been expressing her feelings, thoughts and dreams through sketching and painting. She learned the art of free hand sketching and architectural drawing by the side of her friend and teacher, talented sculptor Argyro Konstantinidou. Her first attempts in producing colored paintings on canvas were in her early years of her studies. Since then, she has been developing her knowledge and techniques and discovering her personal style giving to her works their anthropocentric, surreal and dream-like character.

CALLIGRAPHY

Being faithful to her belief in pursuing her dreams and following her extended studies of the chinese language, in 2004 Christina moves to the Beijing, China, realizing her long time dream. While there, she studies intensively the chinese language at Beijing Language and Culture University (北京语言大学)and at the National Drama School (中戏学院)where she also studies the ancient art of drawing Beijing Opera Masks. It was when she meets her 85 years old chinese calligraphy master Niu LaoShi (牛老师)that her love for China, its culture and its people reached its peak. Studying this ancient form of art by his side she travelled centuries back in time, when calligraphy was being practiced by the wise. This unique experience greatly influenced not only her artistic expression, but also her personality. She practices calligraphy on traditional chinese tracing paper and on the human body.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Christina’ s need to be a ‘Citizen Of The World’, as her father was always reminding her to be, was her leader to all her travels. Being a great admirer of foreign civilizations, different cultures and their people, she finds her escape from reality in traveling. Capturing with her photographic lens the everyday life, the remote areas, the architecture, the great monuments, the different culture elements is for her a way of capturing memory. Great admirer of the human being and its possibilities, again her photography ‘s centre point is people.

The works of art that emerge out of her passion and dreams have been characterized as anthropocentric and dream-like within the borders of contemporary art, but always embracing the beauty and wisdom of the ancient times!
